Over the past couple of weeks we've discussed the importance of relationships, how they give us life and how big of an influence they have on us. It's important to know, though, that relationships aren't always easy to be a part of. Being a good friend, a good sibling or a good son/daughter takes work. Relationships should push us away from selfish thinking and help us to always try to see the best in people.
We live in a world where we're taught to focus on ourselves, even if that means hurting other people to get to where we want to go in life. That said, if we are going to try to live life the way God wants us to it means that we have to fight for it. It takes effort to go against what everyone else may be doing and do what God asks us to do.
Let's be a youth group that listens to our parents and looks out for our friends. Let's be a youth group that looks for the best in everyone, no matter what other people may say about them. Let's be a group that forgives. Let's be a youth group that will fight against selfishness and act in love to those who we say we love the most; because while no relationship is perfect, they are always worth the fight!
What are some of the challenges of being a good friend/family member? Have you ever given up on a friend/family member? Why, and how can you "fight" for those relationships? What are some ways to be more selfless this year?
Don’t be selfish; don’t try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves. Don’t look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too.
