“Wrong Place, Wrong Time”

by City Youth Team

June 9, 2019

For the month of June we will be talking about the importance of "Showing Up"; being present is an important part of our relationship with God. When we show up to the right places (our church, life groups) God can respond to that by showing up in our lives.

At Youth Night this month we talked about the importance of showing up. We learned from the story of Matthias, who was chosen to replace Judas as a disciple. He was chosen because he just kept showing up and was with the disciples through everything. The Bible tells us that Matthias was there for it all, from the time Jesus was baptized, through all the miracles, the celebrations, everything. He kept showing up no matter what, and because of that God used him to be a disciple and to do great things! During this month we’ll talk about this story and how people in the Bible were at the right place at the right time.

As we know, this isn’t always how things turn out. While God does have good places for us to show up to and good people for us to be around, sometimes we can just end up in the wrong place at the wrong time whether we get caught up with the wrong group of friends, or show up to places we know we probably shouldn’t be at. Judas was an example of that.

Judas was one of the twelve disciples, but he was at the wrong place at the wrong time, with the wrong group of people, and ended up betraying Jesus. This is why he was no longer a disciple and was replaced by Matthias.

What can we learn from Judas’ mistake?

“Walk with the wise and become wise; associate with fools and get in trouble.”

(Proverbs 13:20)

Discussion / Reflection Questions:

  1. Have you ever been at the wrong place at the wrong time? What did you learn from that moment?

  2. What can you do to avoid being in the wrong place at the wrong time?
