“Joy + Unity” by Pastor Kent Munsey

“The reason the world lacks unity, and lies broken and in heaps, is, because man is disunited with himself.” - Emerson
Philippians 2:1-2 (NKJV)
Therefore if there is any consolation in Christ, if any comfort of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any affection and mercy, fulfill my joy by being like-minded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind.
Are you in unity with the person that God designed you to be? We must desire unity in our lives and in everything that we do. Apostle Paul writes letters to the church that is divided to help them re-discover their joy. He knew that God is greater than any circumstance that could rob us of our joy. We must complete our joy by living like Jesus. Our circumstances change constantly, but Jesus is the same yesterday, today and forever.
Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.
To find a place of unity in your heart, develop focus, clarity and a positive attitude:
- Refuse to Compete. When you compare, you diminish the Blood of Jesus Christ.
- Recognize your pride. Do not let your actions be motivated by selfishness or pride.
- Be a Builder. Be someone who builds people up, not tears people down.
- Look out for the interest of others. Insensitivity brings disunity.
- Adopt the attitude of Jesus, who demonstrates perfect humility. (Philippians 2:5-10)
John 17:21 (the Message)
"I’m praying not only for them
But also for those who will believe in me
Because of them and their witness about me.
The goal is for all of them to become one heart and mind—
Just as you, Father, are in me and I in you,
So they might be one heart and mind with us.
Then the world might believe that you, in fact, sent me.
The same glory you gave me, I gave them,
So they’ll be as unified and together as we are—
I in them and you in me.
Then they’ll be mature in this oneness,
And give the godless world evidence
That you’ve sent me and loved them
In the same way you’ve loved me."
Action Item: Seek unity in your heart, mind, and relationships.
