Vision Sunday Continues

When my heart is overwhelmed; Lead me to the rock that is higher than I. For You have been a shelter for me, A strong tower from the enemy. I will abide in Your tabernacle forever; I will trust in the shelter of Your wings. Selah

Psalm 61:2-3 (NKJV)

It is comforting to know that we have a God in heaven that is for us and not against us. We have a God in heaven that can rescue us in our time of need. But, then, there are times when God calls us up higher.

We believe in the authority of God’s word. If God spoke it, we can count on it. Scripture says, “There has never been the slightest doubt in my mind that the God who started this great work in you would keep at it and bring it to a flourishing finish on the very day Christ Jesus appears.” Philippians 1:6 (MSG). From this scripture, we glean that what God starts, He finishes. If God is for us, then nothing and no one can be against us. For those of us who call City Church home, Pastor Kent is not asking us to give financially. But, he is asking us, as the Lord leads us, to think higher, pray bigger, give greater, and serve stronger

  1. Thinking Higher. God’s ways are higher than our ways. His thoughts are higher than our thoughts. We should prioritize God and His word, as doing so is storing treasures in heaven. We spend so much money on sporting event tickets. But, we can be so stingy when giving to God. We need to come up higher in our thinking. Let’s believe that God has already provided.

  2. Praying Bigger. What does your prayer life look like? We know that God is moving when we pray big prayers that are even bigger than our personal needs. God is calling us to build him a house so that we can pray bigger prayers. Let’s pray prayers that will outlive us. James 4:2 says, “We do not have because we do not ask.” Then, Luke 1:37 says, “For with God nothing is impossible.” When we begin to pray big prayers and bold prayers, that is where God will meet us.

  3. Give Greater. This is not about an amount. God respects proportional giving. If it is significant to you, then it is significant to God.

  4. Serve Stronger. If you want to be great in the kingdom of heaven, you must first become a servant.

As we do these four things, we will see the goodness of God, the miraculous provision of God, and we will see God finish what he started.
