Godly Motherhood

I thank God whom I serve, as did my ancestors, with a clear conscience, as I remember you constantly in my prayers night and day. As I remember your tears, I long to see you, that I may be filled with joy. I am reminded of your sincere faith, a faith that dwelt first in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice and now, I am sure, dwells in you as well. For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands, for God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.

  • 2 Timothy 1:3-7 (ESV)

You know how, when you were a small child, you were taught the holy Scriptures; and it is these that make you wise to accept God’s salvation by trusting in Christ Jesus. The whole Bible was given to us by inspiration from God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives; it straightens us out and helps us do what is right. It is God’s way of making us well prepared at every point, fully equipped to do good to everyone.

  • Timothy 3:15-17 (TLB)

Paul and Silas came to the city of Derbe and then went on to Lystra,  the hometown of a believer named Timothy. His mother was a Jewish follower of Jesus, but his father was not a Jew.

  • Acts 16:1 (TPT)

When we limit God, He is limited. God is not limited based on our perception of what we need Him to be for Him to work. God empowers ordinary people to do extraordinary things. God can empower you to raise Godly children in any circumstance.

Mother’s Day is an acknowledgment of the unseen things mothers do daily to make their families work. God sees the things that other people do not see. Culture will tell mothers every single day what they are not. Every day mothers wake up believing that they have failed. However, we all need to prioritize God first, and then, other things will fall into place.

If we are not careful, we will fixate on everything, except for what truly matters to our children. We must deposit the Word of God into them. Whatever God sets out to accomplish, He does it through His Word and the Holy Spirit. We produce whatever seeds we water in our lives.

So, what is the goal of Godly motherhood? Let’s start with what it is not. It is not about over-indulging our children with what we did not have. Don’t focus on who you don’t want to be but who you want to be. Don’t bubblewrap your kids. We should protect them, but our goal is to leave them a legacy of faith by taking them to church, praying with them, and reading the Word of God to them.

Godly Motherhood Attributes:

Prioritizing God first. Godly motherhood is loving God first. When we love God more, we love people better. Before we can demonstrate an outward faith, it needs to be rooted inward. If Jesus needed to get away with the Father often to bolster his faith, then how much more do we? The voice of the enemy produces condemnation and accusation, but the voice of God produces conviction and correction. The goal of our life is to end our race in our lane and not in anyone else’s. In the Garden of Eden, Eve thought she had to do more to be more, but the most important thing remains, loving God first. Don’t focus on what you can’t do, focus on what you can do.

Read God’s Word and Pass it Down to our Children. How would your relationship look with a person you only dedicated two hours a week to? Yet, that is what many believers do. They dedicate two out of the one hundred and sixty-eight hours in a week to God. Statistics show astounding results when believers read the bible at least four times a week. When we read the Word of God, our lives change. It is the only book that reads us when we read it.

Pass Prayer Down. Let prayer do the heavy lifting. Prayer moves in the spirit what we cannot see in the natural. Billy Graham said that his mother’s faithful prayers encouraged him to do the work of God. We must never doubt our prayers. God is faithful to honor our prayers, and our prayers can outlive us when it comes to our descendants. Spiritual sickness can only be cured by spiritual remedies. Prayer is a spiritual remedy.
