New Year’s Life Group: Service Guide

Thank you for joining us for our New Year’s service! Below you will find a helpful guide as well as some resources to assist you as you join us this weekend.

The service will have short encouragement from Pastors Kent and Alli, followed by videos of some of our amazing church family. We will be highlighting 2018, what God has done and look forward to 2019 for what God is continuing to do.

The conclusion of the video includes a sneak peak of our brand new music video, “Fighting For Me.” We pray that you and whomever you are with will be blessed today.

Discussion Questions: (These can be done at the conclusion of the video)

1.   What relationships have impacted you the most?

2.   What do you believe is God’s purpose in bringing relationships into our lives?

3.   What relationships have helped you in difficult seasons and how?

4.   How can we help be the relationship that others need?

Life Groups: Take time to talk through the importance of Life Groups

        We believe that real life change and transformation happens in the context of community and relationships. To make sure our church sees this reality, we have designed Life Groups to make sure every person has an opportunity to find these life changing relationships. Worthwhile relationships are never easy, but they are invaluable.

1.   How has Life Groups impacted your life?

2.   If our focus is to create space for relationship, what can we do to continue to grow in impact with our church community?

Prayer Point: Pray that God would continue to create unity and strength though our Life Groups. That people would find genuine connection and experience life transformation.

Outreach: Take time to talk through the opportunity we have through City Church Outreach

In the video, the scripture found in Luke 4, says

“The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me

to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.”

We believe God is on mission in the city of Chicago, and we want to always be a part of what he is doing to point people to him and his love.

  1. What are some ways we as a church touch our city with God’s love?
  2. In what way have you felt compelled to contribute? How has serving our city been a blessing to you? What Outreach projects would you like to get involved with?

Prayer Point: Pray that our lives would be a reflection of Jesus’s, and that we continue to be a church that brings the message and love of Jesus to our city, nation and world.

Giving: Be a part of generously giving to help support God’s vision for City Church

This past year we have seen thousands of people make decisions to follow Jesus, more than a hundred baptized in our church. We have generously given to single mothers, to the homeless, to our global partners, and locally here in Chicago to individuals and families in need.

Our church provided Christmas gifts for 1,262 children throughout Chicago and in Thailand, and hand wrote over 1,000 encouraging notes to kids in some of Chicago’s most vulnerable schools.

And as we grow, we are also looking to expand through a new building to house more ministry opportunities on Sundays and throughout the week.

Prayer Point: Pray that we all would prayerfully consider sowing into the vision of City Church in this season. Pray for the Holy Spirit’s guidance in how he would like us to contribute, and for our faith, trust and obedience.

2019 is going to be a great year and we pray Numbers 6:24-26 over your life,

24 “The Lord bless you and keep you;

25 the Lord make his face shine on you and be gracious to you;

26 the Lord turn his face toward you and give you peace.”

Prayer Point: Take time to share some dreams and goals for the new year, encourage one another!
