Discovering Him in the little things.
A devotional shared by Ching C.
Hello there! Let me introduce you to Ching Chuang-Chow- She is a wife, mother, marathon runner, and author who calls Chicago home and loves her City Church family. A trained architect, she studied at Parsons School of Design and worked in Manhattan. In her book, BRIDGE: “The Power of God’s Vanishing Point,” Ching shares her journey through breast cancer and how her faith in Jesus deepened along the way. Her story encourages others to recognize God’s presence and trust His purpose in every season. We hope you find encouragement through her story too~
SCRIPTURE
2 Peter 1:3–8
Today’s Encouragement
Have you ever walked through a season when you felt especially close to Jesus? You depended on Him, listened for His voice, and found comfort in His presence. Then life got busy again and you found yourself longing for that same closeness.
Ching shares how a challenging season became an opportunity to deepen her faith. As she reflected on that time, she began asking how she could continue nurturing her relationship with Jesus in everyday life.
That’s a question for all of us. How do we stay attentive to Him when the calendar fills up and there is always something else asking for our attention?
In 2 Peter 1:3–8, we’re reminded that God has given us everything we need for a godly life through knowing Him. From that foundation, Peter encourages us to keep growing in goodness, knowledge, self-control, perseverance, godliness, mutual affection, and love.
These qualities grow as we practice them. The truth we receive in our quiet time has a place in our conversations, our decisions, and our relationships.
We can carry what God teaches us in the morning into the moment our patience is tested that afternoon. We can ask the Holy Spirit to guide our words before responding in frustration. We can slow down long enough to notice someone who needs encouragement.
This is where faith becomes part of our daily lives.
And we can be grateful that Jesus meets us here—in our homes, at work, in the car, and in the middle of a full day. We have opportunities to draw close to Him right where we are.
Making room for Jesus begins with a willing heart: “Lord, help me recognize You here. Show me how to respond. I want to live what You’re teaching me.”
Today, choose one thing He has been speaking to your heart and put it into practice. A small act of obedience can become a meaningful step toward a deeper relationship with Him.
A MOMENT TO REFLECT
Where can you put God’s Word into practice today? Think of one situation where you can intentionally respond with patience, self-control, perseverance, or love.
A PRAYER FOR TODAY
Jesus, thank You for Your love and for giving us what we need to grow in You. We’re grateful that we can walk with You through every part of our day. Help us stay attentive to Your presence when life gets busy. Let what we learn in Your Word shape our responses, our choices, and the way we care for others. Holy Spirit, teach us to listen and give us the courage to follow through. We make room for You today. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
