Mark 12:41–44 — The Widow's Offering
Today’s Encouragement
Have you ever felt like you don't have enough time to spend with God? Between work, responsibilities, and everything competing for our attention, it can feel impossible to find the perfect moment to sit quietly with Jesus.
I know that feeling well. As a corporate tax attorney, my days can get pretty full. For a long time, I convinced myself that if I couldn't dedicate a significant amount of uninterrupted time to God, I wasn't doing it right. And because I couldn't do it perfectly, I often didn't do it at all.
Then a mentor challenged me to look at the story of the widow's offering in Mark 12 differently.
While others gave large amounts from their abundance, a widow came forward with just two small coins. Jesus recognized the significance of her gift because she gave out of what little she had.
That story changed how I began thinking about offering my time to God.
What if I stopped focusing on how much time I didn't have and simply started showing up with what I could give?
Sometimes that looks like closing my eyes for a minute during my commute. Other times, it's walking around my office building before a difficult call, asking God to guide my words.
I've also discovered how valuable community can be. Through a Life Group with other working women, I've experienced the encouragement of praying together, supporting one another, and intentionally inviting Jesus into our careers.
Making room for Jesus doesn't always require a perfectly planned schedule or an hour of uninterrupted prayer. Sometimes it begins with a willing heart and a few intentional moments.
Whatever your workday looks like, don't underestimate the significance of simply showing up and making space for Him.
A Moment to Reflect
Where in your workday could you intentionally make room for Jesus, even if it's only for a few minutes?
Closing Prayer
God, I thank You for being such a good Father. Thank You for the opportunities to make room for You in our work and for the freedom to do so. Thank You for the people You've placed around us who support us and challenge us to find those little moments with You.
I pray for every woman listening today, that You would give us an abundance of time this week. Make time where we see none. And when we intentionally set aside moments to be alone with You, I pray that You would multiply that time and help us make the most of it.
We thank You, we praise You, and we'll talk to You soon.
In Jesus' name, Amen.
